Originally introduced from the Himalayas in the early 1900s, the Himalayan tahr has thrived in New Zealand’s alpine regions and is now one of the most sought-after mountain game species in the country. Known for their thick, shaggy coats and incredible climbing ability, tahr inhabit steep, rugged terrain and offer a true mountain hunting experience.

At Lammermoor, we offer limited opportunities to hunt Himalayan tahr in spectacular high-country locations. These hunts are challenging, fair-chase pursuits that often involve long glassing sessions, steep ascents, and careful planning. The reward is a mature bull with a sweeping mane and a trophy that reflects both the difficulty and beauty of the environment it came from.
