Unlike some countries, New Zealand does not require hunters to wear blaze orange, making full camo both safe and effective. Sturdy, waterproof boots with good ankle support are essential, and please ensure they are clean upon arrival to meet New Zealand's biosecurity standards.

Typical shooting distances at Lammermoor range from 100 to 300 yards. Our guides will work with you to ensure you're comfortable with your shots, and we provide opportunities to practice at our shooting range before the hunt.

What level of physical fitness is required?

While our hunts can be tailored to a range of fitness levels, a moderate level of physical fitness is generally recommended. The terrain at Lammermoor includes rolling hills, open valleys, and some rugged high-country sections, so being comfortable walking over uneven ground will enhance your experience. That said, parts of the property are accessible by ATV, and we’re happy to accommodate hunters with limited mobility where possible. What is the preferred caliber?

For the diverse game at Lammermoor, we suggest calibers such as 7mm Mag, 7mm PRC, 300 Win Mag, .308, .30-06, or 7mm-08. These calibers are versatile and effective for species ranging from red stag to wild boar. Our provided rifles are chambered in these calibers, ensuring optimal performance during your hunt.

What is the nearest airport? And can you pick me up?

The closest airports to Lammermoor Station are Queenstown and Dunedin. We offer pickup services from both locations for a modest fee. Please note that New Zealanders drive on the left side of the road, which may be unfamiliar to some visitors; our pickup service can provide a stress-free alternative.

What are the best months to hunt at Lammermoor Station?

The prime hunting season at Lammermoor runs from mid-February to August. The "Roar," which is the rutting period for red stags, occurs from mid-March to late April. During this time, stags are highly vocal and active, similar to elk bugling in North America, providing an exhilarating hunting experience.

I've heard the fishing can be outstanding in New Zealand. What are the options if I want to fish in the area?

Absolutely! The Taieri River, which borders Lammermoor Station, is renowned for its brown trout fishing. We offer guided fishing trips that can be combined with your hunting itinerary, providing a well-rounded outdoor experience.

For big game hunting on private land in New Zealand, no hunting license is required. This is a significant advantage compared to countries like the U.S., where non-resident hunting licenses can be quite expensive. However, if you're interested in waterfowl hunting or trout fishing, a game bird or fishing license is necessary, which can be purchased through Fish & Game New Zealand.

How many days should I block for a typical hunt?

It depends on how many species you are wanting to hunt, we suggest allocating at least 5 to 7 days for your hunting trip. This duration allows ample time to pursue multiple species, adjust for weather conditions, and fully immerse yourself in the Lammermoor experience.

How do I get my trophy home?

We work with reputable taxidermists and shipping agents to prepare and export your trophies. They handle all necessary documentation and ensure compliance with international regulations, including CITES if applicable. Shipping costs vary based on the size and destination of the trophy.

Yes, Lammermoor Station offers comfortable accommodations for our guests. You'll stay in our high-country hut, which provides a cozy and authentic New Zealand experience. We are also in the process of developing a luxury hunting lodge to further enhance your stay in the near future.
